Galveston Island is home to one of the largest collections of historically significant attractions. This is fairly evident from the endless museums & important historic buildings that it houses.
One such significant attraction is the famous Lone Star Flight Museum, often considered synonymous to the Galveston Island. Truly a haven for people interested in exploring the history of flights, the Lone Star Flight Museum exhibits an exorbitant collection of as many as 40 restored & significantly important aircrafts besides hundreds of other aircrafts. What makes it a rare collection though is the fact that most of these aircrafts are still in working condition.
The Lone Star Flight Museum located close to the Scholes International Airport & Moody Gardens Hotel is spread across an area of 100,000 sq ft & has an airstrip of its own. A non-profit educational museum, Lone Star is dedicated to the aviation experts of yesteryears & to the unmatched spirit & memory of defense personnel who once flew these aircrafts. The museum derives its funds entirely through donations & other fund-raising activities.
Being such a rare collection of aircrafts, these are often presented at various airshows held across the country. A unique program launched by the museum in 2007 allows visitors to ride some of the museum’s Warbirds. The museum also honors the contributions of Texas natives to spaceflight & aviation through the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame located within the museum.
