The Friends of Galveston Island State Park will host a New Year's 5K Fun Run & Walk on 2nd January 2010. The runners will move along a combination of paved roadways and grassy hiking trails winding through and beside bay, bayou, freshwater ponds and coastal prairie grasslands, a diversity of habitats that that make Galveston Island State Park so unique.
The run begins at 8am with the 5K runners. Walkers will begin at 8:45am. Participation fee is $20, and tee-shirts and tote-bags will be provided.
The run will commence from the east parking area of the Galveston Island State Park and after winding through the nature trails will conclude at the east parking area only. Prizes will be awarded to the winners in each age category and refreshments will be served.
